UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is leading the way in telehealth and telemedicine services to meet the needs of referring doctors, embassies, health ministries, insurance providers, patients, and families around the world.

State-of-the-art digital technologies allow us to provide complex pediatric care, education, and training through remote and virtual means wherever our expertise is needed at any time of the day or night.

Since 2009, we have participated in more than 1,000 telemedicine encounters for international patients and referring physicians — and our experience is growing every day.

Our menu of international telemedicine services includes:

  • Electronic monitoring of pediatric patients in critical care units
  • Consultative services for post-operative management of pediatric transplant patients
  • Tele-education and training of medical staff

Based at our state-of-the-art Telemedicine Center, located at Children's main campus in Pittsburgh, Pa., our Telemedicine Program uses a variety of technologies, including real-time, high-definition videoconferencing for consultation and training.

Children's Hospital is members of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Telehealth Care and the pediatric telehealth special interest group of the American Telemedicine Association, to help set the standard for the delivery of pediatric specialty care.
