Careers in Neurodiagnostics (EEG and EMU)
It has been a wonderful time of growth in the Epilepsy Monitoring and outpatient EEG units of UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Our accommodations in the new 10 acre hospital are state of the art with a family friendly feel.
Our technology is unprecedented but more so is the collaborative work between physicians, nurses, and EEG technologists. Our staff of 15 nurses and 10 EEG technologists works closely together to care for the patients in our 8 bed inpatient epilepsy monitoring unit. Close by is the outpatient EEG unit where our staff of 5 technologists may see over 20 in- and out-patients per day.
Our greatest resource and path to success is our staff. Family centered care is our focus, and we provide our patients with the best experience possible. Our staff comes from a variety of backgrounds, and they all strive to make a difference in the life of a child and their family. The staff members that work in this department are dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated individuals who believe in providing the family with their skill and expertise.
All of our EEG technologists have an opportunity to participate in a variety of ongoing educational forums. Many are active in their professional organizations (ASET and ABRET) on both the regional and national level. All of our technologists are supported in their professional growth, and a strong mentoring environment exists between junior and senior techs.
Our nursing staff comes with many years of experience, and an additional orientation specific to the Epilepsy Center helps them to recognize and treat the special needs of our patients. The nurses are actively involved in the daily functions of the unit. They function independently to manage the care of patients who have a variety of acuity levels.
The leadership of the department is dedicated to providing a positive work environment, educational opportunities, and a competitive salary. We recognize the importance of work life balance and endeavor to maintain an environment conducive to the needs of our staff while providing our patient families with optimal service.
I invite you to visit our outstanding department to learn more about our opportunities. Join us in making a difference in the lives of children.
