The Department of Speech-Language Pathology provides comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and consultation for children with speech, language, communication, cognitive - communication, social communication, and swallowing/feeding disorders.
The Department of Speech-Language Pathology is recognized as one of the most outstanding pediatric facilities in the nation. UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is accredited by The Joint Commission.
Referrals may be received from any source. Self-referrals are accepted, although a physician’s referral and prescription are required for billing insurance companies. Authorization from the insurance provider and primary care physician are often required, especially for those enrolled in managed care insurance plans. All necessary referral, prescription, and authorization forms must be received before the patient’s visit.
