Children's South

In and out, the new Children’s South resembles the main campus in Lawrenceville – from an abundance of natural light to distraction therapy features for various age groups.

In addition:

• LEED certification has been achieved. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a voluntary, consensus-based, market­-driven program that provides third-party verification of green buildings.
• Built on 2.6 acres
• 60,000 square feet of medical office space (15,000 square feet will be reserved for future programming needs)

In the outpatient clinical care centers at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh – and at the hospital in general – we continuously focus on family-centered care in order to provide an optimal experience for patients and their families.

To assist in providing family-centered care during outpatient visits, a certified child life specialist (CCLS) will focus on preparation, language, distraction, parental involvement, and teaching approaches prior to and during a child’s test/procedure. The CCLS’ role is to help children and their families cope with the anxiety and fear associated with their visit.

A CCLS can be used as a resource for parents prior to their child’s procedure and also for feedback once the procedure has been completed. The CCLS can also serve as an educator for staff members as well as other health care professionals in the community. The overall goal of the Child Life Department is to enhance emotional, social, and cognitive growth among pediatric patients during medical experiences.

Imaging Services at Children’s South are performed by Children’s’ Department of Pediatric Radiology. The pediatric radiologists, pediatric nurses, technologists and physician assistants are the same specialists who perform radiologic studies at our main campus in Lawrenceville. These pediatric-trained specialists are particularly skilled at tailoring procedures to the pediatric patient. State-of-the-art pediatric imaging services available at this location are:

• Diagnostic digital x-ray and fluoroscopy
• MRI providing advanced neurological, liver, and cardiac applications
• Ultrasound

X-Ray Walk-in Hours

Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Closed: 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.)

Saturday: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sundays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
