The mission of UPMC Children’s Hospital’s ED Affiliation Program is to establish a collaborative network of hospitals to provide quality pediatric emergency care for all children in the region through a combination of:
Affiliation with UPMC Children’s Hospital gives hospitals the ability to provide each pediatric emergency patient in your Emergency Department with the right care, by the right provider, in the right place, at the right time.
Our program aligns with a broad national movement to increase pediatric emergency readiness in every emergency department. The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) have released joint policy statements (most recently in 2018) that guide these efforts.

We worked with all relevant subspecialty experts at UPMC Children's Hospital on the below guidelines.
They show consensus and evidence-based care plans, which we'll sometimes update to reflect the latest standards of care. We've made some small changes to the original guidelines to apply more to the ED provider.
