Directions to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Main Campus 

1. Follow West Liberty Avenue through the Liberty Tunnel and across the Liberty Bridge.
2. Follow signs for the Crosstown Boulevard and Veterans Bridge/Route 579 North.
3. Cross the bridge in the right lane and follow signs for Route 28 North.
4. Follow Route 28 North to the traffic light at the 40th Street Bridge and turn right on the bridge.
5. Follow 40th Street through the traffic light at Butler Street and up the hill to the traffic light at Penn Avenue. Turn left.
6. Follow Penn Avenue to 44th Street. The hospital is on your left. To reach the Emergency Department, turn left at 44th Street. The Emergency Department is immediately on the right. To reach the main patient entrance, continue to 45th Street, turn left and follow the parking signs.

From the South Hills via Route 51

1. Follow exit ramp through the Liberty Tunnels (left lane).
2. Drive over the Liberty Bridge.
3. Take 579 North/279 and stay in the right lane, then continue straight
4. Follow Liberty Ave./Bloomfield sign
5. Exit to the right onto Bigelow Boulevard/PA-380.
6. Take Bigelow Boulevard to the Bloomfield Bridge (exit to the right).
7. Stay in the right lane over the bridge. Go straight through the first traffic light onto Main Street.
8. Turn right at second light onto Penn Avenue. Hospital is on the left.

1. Follow Route 279 (Parkway West) through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and over the Fort Pitt Bridge.
2. Follow left lane signs for Fort Duquesne Bridge/Route 279 North.
3. Cross Fort Duquesne Bridge and follow right lane signs for Route 279/28 North.
4. Follow right lane exit signs for Route 28 North.
   CONSTRUCTION ALERT: During the Route 28 improvement project, motorists will experience a detour when traveling northbound on Route 28 to Children's Hospital. Here are three detour options:
   
   (1) Follow the Alternate Route 28 Northbound Detour which uses the Chestnut Street exit making a right onto 16th Street. Travel across the bridge and make a left at the second light onto Liberty Avenue, then left onto 31st Street and a quick right onto Penn Avenue. Follow Penn Avenue to Children's Hospital.
   
   (2) Continue north on Route 28 past the 31st Street and 40th Street bridges. Follow the posted 31st Street Bridge detour which exits at the 62nd Street Bridge. Make a right after crossing the bridge and continue south on Butler Street. Continue straight and make left onto 40th Street, left onto Penn Avenue and follow to Children's Hospital.
   
   (3) Continue north on Route 28 past the 31st Street and 40th Streets bridges and take the Millvale Exit. At the light make a left. Continue straight and re-enter southbound Route 28 at the 40th Street Bridge. Make a left onto the bridge and take 40th Street to Penn Ave. Turn left and follow to Children's Hospital.
   
   
5. Follow Route 28 North to the traffic light at the 40th Street Bridge and turn right on the bridge.
6. Follow 40th Street through the traffic light at Butler Street and up the hill to the traffic light at Penn Avenue. Turn left.
7. Follow Penn Avenue to 44th Street. The hospital is on your left. To reach the Emergency Department, turn left at 44th Street. The Emergency Department is immediately on the right. To reach the main patient entrance, continue to 45th Street, turn left and follow the parking signs.

1. Follow Route 65 South to Route 279 North.

RECOMMENDED ALTERNATE ROUTE DURING ROUTE 28 CONSTRUCTION PHASE

1. Take 279 South to 579 South Exit Veterans Bridge (Exit 2A) and stay in the right lane
2. Follow signs to 6th and 7th Avenue, stayng in the left lane, heading towards the Consol Energy Center and 6th Ave.
3. Make a left onto Consol Center and stay in the left lane
4. Follow signs to E 380 Bigelow Blvd.
5. Take Bigelow Boulevard to the Bloomfield Bridge (exit to the right)
6. Stay in the rigth lane over the bridge. Go straight through the first traffic light onto Main Street.
7. Turn right at second light onto Penn Avenue. Children's Hospital is on the left.

The hospital is visible for miles up and down Allegheny River, and from Troy Hill and other North Side neighborhoods.

1. Take Route 28 from the north* or south and get off at the 40th Street Bridge.
2. Go straight up 40th Street to Penn Avenue and make a left. The 44th Street entrance to the hospital is four blocks ahead.

1. Follow Route 28 South to the light at the 40th Street Bridge.
2. Turn left at the light onto the bridge.
3. Follow 40th Street through the traffic light at Butler Street and up the hill to the traffic light at Penn Avenue. Turn left.
4. Follow Penn Avenue to 44th Street. The hospital is on your left. To reach the Emergency Department, turn left at 44th Street. The Emergency Department is immediately on the right. To reach the main patient entrance, continue to 45th Street, turn left and follow the parking signs.

1. Follow Route 376 (Parkway East) to the Edgewood/Swissvale Exit (the last exit before the Squirrel Hill Tunnel).
2. Follow exit signs for Edgewood and turn right onto Braddock Avenue.
3. Continue on Braddock Avenue for approximately one mile through two traffic lights. At the third light, turn left onto Penn Avenue.
4. Continue on Penn Avenue for approximately 3.5 miles (you will see the landmark of East Liberty Presbyterian Church on your left at roughly the half-mile mark).
5. Watch for the fence bordering Allegheny Cemetery on your right. At the end of the fence, you’ll see Children’s Hospital’s main patient entrance at the intersection of 45 Street and Penn Avenue. Turn right at the entrance and follow the parking signs.
6. For the Emergency Department entrance, follow Penn Avenue one block farther along the front of the hospital to 44th Street. Turn right at the light. The patient entrance to the Emergency Department is immediately on the right.

From Penn Hills and other points east, you can reach the hospital by way of Allegheny River Boulevard.

1. Follow the Boulevard past the turn offs for the Highland Park Bridge and the Pittsburgh Zoo. The Boulevard becomes Butler Street, which travels through the heart of Lawrenceville.
2. Follow Butler Street to 44th Street or Main Street and turn left to reach the hospital at the top of the hill.
