At the Children’s Hospital Brain Care Institute, we offer a multidisciplinary approach to caring for neuromuscular diseases and muscular dystrophy. Through consultations with other specialists, such as pediatric geneticists, we’re able to identify genetic markers for the disease and prescribe new and better treatments for neuromuscular rehabilitation.
Clinic services include diagnostic evaluation, periodic follow-up visits, and social services. Summary reports are sent to your child’s pediatrician after the initial diagnostic evaluation and after each follow-up visit. In addition, the program director is available to consult with the pediatrician about problems related to your child’s neuromuscular disease.
Your family and child will meet with the physician, as well as with key members of the clinic, who will help with patient care. Members of the team include:
- Physical therapists who specialize in neuromuscular physical therapy
- Genetic counselors
- Research coordinators
- Social workers
