The Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine serves families and primary care physicians in two ways:

General Inpatient Pediatrics

The pediatricians in this division care for infants, children, and young adults whose conditions require admission to the hospital — from basic pediatric disorders to complex multi-system diagnoses and beyond.

They serve as the primary care physician’s partner by:

  • Caring for hospitalized patients.
  • Providing ongoing communication to ensure a safe transition once home.

Members of the Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine are skilled at working with the many specialists in the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh community to facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment options. In 2018, the division cared for over 33% of the patients admitted to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
