Patient Procedures

The procedure sheets below have been designed to help parents and guardians and their children to better understand the gastroenterology tests that have been scheduled by a physician. Please select the procedure below to view or download a printable version.

  • Capsule Endoscopy – a test to see inside the small intestine
  • Colonoscopy – a test to see the large intestine, lower part of the rectum, colon, and lower end of the small intestine
  • EGD or Endoscopy – a test to see inside the esophagus, the stomach and the first part of the duodenum
  • Gastric Emptying Study – a test that measures the time it takes for food to empty from the stomach and enter the small intestine
  • Liver Biopsy – when a patient has an abnormal liver test to help the doctor figure out the cause of liver problems and the extent of the liver injury
  • 24-Hour pH Probe Study – a test that uses a thin probe or tube placed in the esophagus or food pipe that connects the mouth to the stomach to help your doctor diagnose and treat acid reflux
