The Observation Unit staff uses a team approach to care for the acutely sick child, incorporating a dedicated attending physician and residents, as well as nursing and respiratory care personnel. This approach provides streamlined medical services, increased parent education and improved family satisfaction.
The attending physicians are members of the Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, who are the pediatric hospitalists for Children's General Medical Service. The Observation Unit’s attending physician can serve as the primary physician caring for a child on the unit or in cooperation with the admitting community physician.
