The procedure sheets below have been designed to help parents and guardians and their children to better understand the speech language pathology tests that have been scheduled by a physician. Please select the procedure below to view.
- Modified Barium Swallow (Cookie Swallow) – a special X-ray of the throat that shows how your child swallows.
- Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) – completed with ENT and SLP to obtain a direct view of the child’s upper airway during swallowing.
- Televex – a video x-ray which shows movement of the soft palate during speech activities. The soft palate is the soft portion of the roof of your mouth that stops inappropriate airflow into the nasal cavity for most speech sounds. This procedure is most appropriate to determine the treatment plan for children with velopharyngeal incompetency.
