Confident Kids Program at Center for Independence

Confident Kids is a program to help late elementary to middle schoolers interact with others appropriately in school and other social settings by improving cognitive processes in areas like attention, problem solving, verbal reasoning, and organizational skills. The program is offered by the Center for Independence at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Professionals from Behavioral HealthOccupational TherapyPhysical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology will work with participants in the program.

Who Should Participate?

Children who need assistance in building organizational skills to interact and communicate more effectively with others.

What Will They Learn?

Confident Kids will help children:

  • Act in socially appropriate ways
  • Develop turn-taking skills
  • Follow rules and directions
  • Problem solve (e.g. cognitive and visual strategies)
  • Finish tasks on time
  • Switch between tasks effectively
  • Engage in extended conversation
  • Express emotions effectively
