Getting Started With Your Child’s Video Visits

At UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, many of our pediatric providers offer video visits, providing convenient access to care for your child from the comfort of home.

Scheduling Your Video Visit

There are a few ways to schedule your video visit with a UPMC Children’s primary care provider or specialist:

  • If your child has an existing UPMC Children’s primary care provider or specialist, you can schedule follow-up care in your MyUPMC account.
  • If your child needs to be seen by a new primary care provider or specialist at UPMC Children’s, you can search the UPMC Provider Directory to find the care you need. You can also filter by video visits to make your search easier.
  • At your next in-person visit, you can ask your care team if they offer video visits for care. If so, you can schedule your next appointment while you’re there.
  • If you have an established provider, you can call their office to ask about video visits. If they offer video visits, you can schedule over the phone and be sure to confirm which patient portal you’ll need to sign up for and use on the day of your visit.

Prior to your video visit, you will need to ensure that you have proxy access through MyUPMC or MyCHP, depending upon the type of care needed. Proxy access allows you to manage your child’s care through their patient portal.

Requesting Proxy Access

You will need to request proxy access through MyUPMC if your child is going to be seen by a UPMC Children’s primary care provider.

To get started:

  • Log in to  MyUPMC on web or mobile.
  • Once you are logged in, navigate to your “Account Settings” and select “Family Access.”
  • Then, select “Add Patient” to fill out and submit the Child/Minor form. You will receive confirmation once proxy linking is complete.

If your child is being seen by a specialist at UPMC Children’s, you will need to request proxy access through both MyUPMC and MyCHP. To request proxy access for MyCHP, use the links below or talk to your child’s care team at their next visit.
